According to department sources, training programmes will be conducted for teachers of schools across the State in both online and offline modes in the days to come.

The Education Department is planning to introduce Vedic Maths in Class VIII and Class IX in government schools of Guwahati from the next academic session on an experimental mode. Subsequently, the subject will be introduced at the primary and secondary levels in government schools across the State as well. However, the Department is yet to decide on the syllabus, books etc.

Regarding the introduction of Vedic Maths, State Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “.....The inclusion of an educational subject is for the purpose of achieving excellence for the students of the state. We want to make it clear that Vedic mathematics does not mean the Vedas and Puranas, it is a scientific technique for mastering mathematics. It is planned to provide training in Vedic mathematics to teachers as it is essential to dispel the fear of mathematics among the students of the state and to develop a scientific mindset in the field of education by popularizing mathematics.”

Vedic Mathematics is an ancient system of calculation which comprises a collection of techniques and sutras to solve mathematical problems in an easy and faster way.
