GUWAHATI: The death toll from floods this year has risen to eight, with the death of one in the Sivasagar district today. The flood situation is worsening in the state, affecting 1.11 lakh people in 411 villages in 17 districts. The Disang and the Brahmaputra are still flowing above their danger levels, and the Dikhow (Sivasagar) is flowing above the highest flood level. The Dikhow has affected around 71 villages in the Sivasagar district, 91 in Dhemaji, 61 in Majuli, and 41 in Golaghat.
NDRF and SDRF personnel are in a rescue operation with ten boats in the Sivasagar district. They rescued 282 affected people in the district.
As many as 85 relief camps, 45 in Sivasagar alone, are operational in the state. Over 1,000 people in Sivasagar are taking shelter in relief camps.
Reports of infrastructure damage came from Gohpur, Srijongram, Manikpur, Jonai, Dhemaji, Mayang, Narayanpur, Bokakhat, Rangia, Borkhetri, etc.
