Guwahati: Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) Div. II today declared the results for the Higher Secondary (HS) Final exam 2025 in Arts, Science, Commerce and Vocational streams, with an overall pass percentage of 81.77%. However, the results this year are not as good as those in the past year (2024).
A significant aspect of the HS Final results this year is that female candidates fared much better than their male counterparts. Another interesting fact is that the ASSEB did not announce any toppers this year.
According to the results gazette, the pass percentages in the different streams this year are—Arts 81.03%, Science 84.88%, Commerce 82.18% and Vocational stream 68.55%. In 2024, the pass percentages in the HS Final results in Arts, Science, and Commerce streams were 88.36%, 89.88% and 87.66%.
The HS Final exams 2025 witnessed a record number of candidates applying for and appearing in the exams. The total candidates applying for the exams were 3,06,925. Against this number, a total of 3,02,613 candidates appeared for the exams, with 4,312 candidates remaining absent. Among those appearing for the exams, a total of 2,47,462 students were successful, registering a pass percentage of 81.77%.
As for the Arts stream, a total of 2,26,756 students appeared for the exams. Among them, 49,577 students achieved First Division, 80,650 passed in Second Division, and 53,518 cleared the exam in Third Division. A total of 1,83,745 students passed, resulting in a pass percentage of 81.03%. The pass percentage for male students stood at 78.42%, while female students outperformed with a pass rate of 82.95%. Significantly, 108 candidates were expelled during the exams.
Moreover, Baksa district was the top performer in the Arts stream with a pass percentage of 94.21%, followed by Darrang district in the second spot with a success rate of 93.82%. Next is Sivasagar district with 90.78%. On the other hand, Cachar district recorded the lowest pass percentage of 58.96% in the state.
The Science stream had 56,909 candidates appearing for the exam. Among these, 25,827 students secured First Division, 19,286 passed in Second Division, and 3,196 cleared the exam in Third Division. With 48,309 students passing in the Science stream, the pass percentage in this stream reached 84.88%. Female students in Science fared comparatively better with a pass percentage of 85.54%, with male students registering a pass percentage of 84.39%. It should be mentioned here that 36 candidates were expelled during the exam.
West Karbi Anglong emerged as the top district in the Science stream, with an outstanding 100% pass rate. Sivasagar came in second place with a pass percentage of 97.13%, and Baksa came in the third spot with 95.66%. However, Dima Hasao had the dubious distinction of recording the lowest pass percentage of only 56.27%.
Coming to the Commerce stream, a total of 17,746 candidates appeared for the exam. Among them, 6,519 students secured First Division, 5,760 passed in Second Division, and 2,305 students cleared the exam in Third Division. A total of 14,584 students passed in the Commerce stream, with an overall pass percentage of 82.18%. Again, female candidates outperformed their male counterparts with a success rate of 82.40%, as compared to 82.08% for male students. It is to be mentioned that 8 candidates were expelled during the exam.
Among the districts, South Salmara achieved the best performance in the Commerce stream, with a 100% pass rate. The district had 11 students, with two securing First Division and nine in Second Division. Baksa district came in second place with a pass percentage of 98.20%, followed by Chirang with 98.15%. The worst-performing district is Dima Hasao, registering a pass percentage of 46.60%.
The Vocational stream had 1202 candidates appearing for the exam, with 824 students passing the exam, recording a pass percentage of 68.55%. Of the successful candidates, 60 students secured First Division, 464 in the Second Division and 300 cleared the exam in the Third Division. In this stream too, female candidates led the way with a pass percentage of 74.39%, while male students had a pass percentage of 65.53%. During the exam, 3 candidates were expelled.
Biswanath, Sribhumi and Lakhimpur achieved a record 100% success rate in the Vocational stream. Hailakandi scored the lowest pass percentage of 29.27%.
The HS Final results this time witnessed top performers emerge in core and specialised subjects. In the subject of Healthcare, 18 students secured 99 marks out of 100; in Mathematics, 15 students scored the full 100 marks; in Retail Trade, 11 students scored 100 marks; in Anthropology, 17 students scored 99 marks; in Bihu, 5 students secured the maximum 100 marks; in English, 8 students secured 99 marks; in Physics, 8 students scored the total 100 marks; and in MIL (Assamese), 7 students secured 99 marks out of 100. This year, candidates from the three districts in Barak Valley, minority-dominated areas and ST (H) areas performed below par.
