GUWAHATI: The State Government has created 75 more posts of assistant professors in the Arts stream for Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Adarsha Mahavidyalayas (PDUAM) in the state. This move is in sync with the increase in the load on colleges with the implementation of the four-year degree courses under NEP-2020 (National Education Policy-2020).
The State has five PDUAM colleges, one each at Behali in the Biswanath district, Amjonga in the Goalpara district, Eraligol in the Karimganj district, Dalgaon in the Darrang district, and Tulungia in the Bongaigaon district. The last government established all these colleges for higher education and Science and Commerce teams. With the rush of Arts students, the government took the decision to open the arts stream in such colleges as well. Following an instruction from the State Government, the Director of Higher Education moved the State Government through the Department of Higher Education for the creation of 75 posts of assistant professors for opening the Arts stream in the five PDUAM colleges.
After careful examination of the proposal and approval from the Chief Minister, the Finance Department approved the creation of the 75 posts of assistant professor, leading to the issuance of the official notification to this effect.
According to the notification, the posts are in subjects like Education, Economics, Political Science, history, and Sociology. Each of the five PDUAM colleges will get 15 additional assistant professors.
