GUWAHATI: The Assam Government has decided to reorganize all revenue circle offices in the state in view of the recent delimitation exercise in the Parliamentary and Assembly constituencies and creation of the sub-district concept in the state.
Post-delimitation of the constituencies, the revenue circle offices are being reorganized as the areas under them has changed.
The state Revenue & Disaster Management department has formed committees for making proposals regarding the reorganization of the revenue circle offices.
Talking to The Sentinel, Revenue & Disaster Management minister Jogen Mohan said, “Recently, the Election Commission of India completed the delimitation exercise in Parliamentary and Legislative Assembly constituencies in the state. Following this, the state government adopted the sub-district concept, meaning that, there will be ‘one LAC, one sub-district’ for public convenience. Revenue-related work can now be done in one’s own area, without having to visit the District Commissioner’s office concerned. Every sub-district will have one Additional District Commissioner (ADC) and one Circle Officer. All revenue related work will be done by them.”
“In doing so, we have to reorganize the revenue circle offices also. The government has already taken a policy decision on this recently. After reorganization of circle offices, the areas of the revenue circles will also change,” he added.
The Revenue & Disaster Management minister further said, “At present, there are 154 circle offices in the state. After reorganization, there may be one or two additions or there may be one or two less circle offices. The district commissioners are conducting field verification in their respective areas through junior officers. The government will take a final decision after their reports are submitted. Some revenue circle offices are in hard-to-access places for most of the people. It will be examined whether the offices will remain in place or if they have to be shifted for the convenience of the people.”
