Guwahati: Following the issue of a fresh tender notice for the balance work on the Jorhat-Majuli bridge, both the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and Assam PWD have set a completion target of two years from the date of appointment of the new contractor.

The original schedule of completion was the end of 2025. But, due to tardy work by UP State Bridge Construction Ltd and its subsequent surrender of the work, the bridge remained incomplete since September 2024, with only 32% of the work done. The work on the bridge started in July 2021.

Assam PWD sources said that the last date of bid submission is July 7, 2025.

The sources further said that the new contractor will be given a defect liability period of 3 years from the date of completion of the bridge project, during which all maintenance work has to be carried out by the construction firm concerned.

The process for evaluation of technical and financial bids will take some time, and it is expected that the work will be awarded in September or October. Work on the balance portion of the project is expected to resume around October, as the rainy season comes to an end and work can proceed uninterrupted, the sources further said.
