Assam: Light Rain Forecast on Magh Bihu at Isolated Places in State

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that light rain is very likely to occur at isolated places over Assam over the next two days.

Guwahati: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that light rain is very likely to occur at isolated places over Assam over the next two days. There is also a forecast of dense fog at isolated places in Assam and some of the other NE states during these two days.

The two days will be marked as Uruka and Magh Bihu across the state. Magh Bihu is the most important post-harvest festival for the Assamese people, and the first day is celebrated as Uruka.

The Regional Meteorological Centre of IMD at Guwahati issued a weather forecast for Assam and adjoining states on January 13, which says, “Moderate rain is very likely to occur at many places over Arunachal Pradesh; light rain is very likely to occur at isolated places over Assam & Nagaland, and dry weather is likely to prevail over Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura. Shallow to moderate fog is very likely to occur in isolated pockets over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, & Tripura. Light to moderate snowfall is very likely to occur at isolated pockets in higher reaches of Arunachal Pradesh. Two to three degrees rise in minimum temperature very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura.”

The forecast for January 14 says, “Light rain is very likely to occur at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh & Assam, and Dry weather is likely to prevail over Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura. Shallow to moderate fog is very likely to occur in isolated pockets over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, & Tripura. Light to moderate snowfall likely to occur at isolated pockets in higher reaches of Arunachal Pradesh. Three to four degrees fall in minimum temperature is very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura.”

According to RMC Guwahati, the lowest minimum temperature of 10.6 degrees Celsius in this season was recorded in the city on January 11. In the past 24 hours, North Lakhimpur recorded a low of 6 degrees Celsius in the minimum temperature, which was 3 degrees lower than normal.

Some of the places experiencing low minimum temperatures are Guwahati with 11.2 degrees Celsius, Jorhat 9.8, Dibrugarh 10.7, Goalpara 11.8, Nagaon 12.4, Silchar 13.5, and Tezpur 12 degrees Celsius in the past 24 hours.
