Guwahati: Bodoland Peoples’ Front (BPF) MLA Durga Das Boro today called the attention of the Assam Assembly to the allegations of spurious liquor coming into the state from Meghalaya, which leads to the loss of huge revenue to the Assam government. In his speech, he pointed out that there was an illegal liquor factory at Barapani in Meghalaya. Even holograms and labels of liquor were found in the factory.
Boro said, “The demand is okay, but sales have gone down as spurious liquor is coming into the state. Which is why the sale of liquor of around Rs 2 crore has decreased, resulting in a loss of revenue to the Excise Department in Assam. This is happening only because of the illegal production of liquor. Only a single person supplies the spirit required in liquor production. Inquiry should be made as to whom he supplies with the spirit. Enquiries should also be made at distilleries. Also, as to who supplies the spurious liquor to the retailers.”
In his reply, Excise Minister Atul Bora assured that the concerns of Boro will be addressed and the matter will be looked into.
