Guwahati: In a significant decision by the special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Guwahati, it was decided that all pending cases against accused National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) leaders would be transferred to district & session courts in the districts where the alleged incidents took place. The accused NDFB leaders with cases registered against them by the NIA will be tried in these courts in different districts in the future.

According to NIA sources, trials in a total of nine NDFB-related cases were being conducted at the NIA Special Court in Guwahati. Of these, judgement has already been delivered in one case, while the remaining eight cases have now been shifted to courts in Kokrajhar and other districts concerned, as per the territorial jurisdiction where each case reportedly occurred.

The accused feature several prominent NDFB leaders, including M Batha, who are currently incarcerated at Guwahati Central Jail. Authorities have confirmed that, in the coming days, the accused will be transferred to district jails corresponding to the newly assigned district courts.

The transfer of the cases is in keeping with procedural norms, which mandate that cases be tried in the jurisdiction where the incidents are said to have occurred. The decision is expected to expedite the legal proceedings and ensure that justice is served.
