GUWAHATI: APCC president Gaurav Gogoi today said that state PCC has been working as a team rather than being president-centric.

Speaking to a group of journalists on his completion of the first month as APCC president today, Gogoi said, "Working as a team, we have 88 observers working in the field, assessing the strength and weakness of the party. The observers have also been identifying the aspirations of the probable candidates LAC (Legislative Assembly Constituency)-wise."

With the Assembly election barely ten months away, Gogoi said, "In this situation, time is our enemy. We have to do a lot of activities in a very short period. While working in a hurry, we run the risk of making mistakes. We're working in cohesion, leaving no gaps between party leaders and cadres. We're strengthening the party and its wings at the grassroots level. The feedback we've received in the past month is very positive. If we are to win, we need to increase our share of votes in all the 126 LACs of the state. Our focus will be on making the voter lists free from anomalies."

Earlier, addressing party workers, Gogoi condemned the rise of syndicate-controlled operations in Barak Valley, alleging that illegal trade in stone, sand, and supari flourished under political protection. "This isn't governance - this is scheming," he said.

He criticized the government's inadequate response to landslide-affected areas, saying Barak needs "schools, hospitals, and flood management - not criminal enterprises."

Gogoi further alleged widespread nepotism in the distribution of welfare schemes, claiming that while ordinary women receive meagre benefits, relatives of BJP leaders enjoy disproportionate financial gains.
