GUWAHATI: As a part of a nationwide campaign on the destruction of seized drugs, the Assam Police destroyed drugs worth crores of rupees in various districts in the state today, following due procedure and taking necessary permissions from the Pollution Control Board, Assam (PCBA) and the court.
The drugs destroyed today included 64 kg of heroin, 5260 kg of ganja, 50,955 bottles of cough syrup, 20.57 lakh tablets and capsules, 950 grams of tablets and capsules, 8.915 kg of morphine, 10.124 kg of opium, 0.563 kg of Tramadol powder, and 80,000 cigarettes.
In Guwahati, the police destroyed seized drugs worth Rs 223 crore at two locations: Singimari Bagicha Gaon, Chandrapur, near the Kalong Bridge under Pragjyotishpur Police Station, and Jaiswal Rolling Mill, Boragaon, under Garchuk Police Station. The destroyed drugs included 3154.442 kg of ganja, 7.252 kg of heroin, 1.86 lakh tablets, 16.88 kg of brown sugar, 20,043 bottles of cough syrup, 2230.26 grams of opium, and 843 grams of raw materials for brown sugar.
This is the fifth such destruction of contraband in Assam in the last two years. It is a part of the Conference on "Drug Trafficking and National Security," held in New Delhi on Monday. Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired the conference organized by the NCB in New Delhi.
