Guwahati: In a bid to ensure effective monitoring and guidance of civil construction works across the more than 45,000 schools in the state, a Civil Works Monitoring Portal under Samagra Shiksha, Assam, was launched on Saturday.

The portal will enable real-time tracking, facilitate timely instructions, and ensure both speedy construction and quality maintenance, said state Education Minister Ranoj Pegu while launching a web portal for monitoring of the civil works in all the government and provincialised schools across the state. He also released two Career Guidance Table Books to equip students with knowledge and skills to provide them with the necessary support to make informed career decisions.

The Civil Works Monitoring System is designed to track the progress of infrastructure development, such as additional classrooms, ramps and handrails, teacher residential quarters, science labs, computer rooms, boys' toilets, girls' toilets, etc., in schools across the state. The system is accessible via Samagra Shiksha, Assam's web portal https://ssa.assam.gov.in, and has multi-level logins at the state, district, and block levels.

Different functionaries at the state and district levels would be able to track the progress of the civil works, while state-level users will have the facility to track the district-wise progress of all activities, while block-level users, specifically junior engineers, are responsible for uploading the current progress or status of an activity. For updating the progress status of an activity, junior engineers will have to visit the worksite and do the login using their mobile/tablet, and for updating the progress status (0-100%), geo-tagged photos of the worksite are to be captured by their mobile. Junior engineers will update progress periodically with geo-tagged photos.

This application would be a great boon for monitoring all the civil work activities in the field, as the real-time status can be checked with the photos. 5,000 to 10,000 construction works are going on at different schools across the state.

The Minister also launched two Career Guidance table books for secondary grade students pursuing Arts, Science and Commerce streams, encompassing a broad spectrum of career pathways such as banking, financial services, and insurance; defence; engineering; fine arts; health and wellness; legal; language; media; and management and vocational courses. The Career Guidance Table Book has been developed by Samagra Shiksha, Assam, in collaboration with UNICEF, and its two volumes-Volume III: Arts, Media, and Entertainment and Volume IV: Vocational Careers-compile information on more than 200 career pathways.

Last year, Samagra Shiksha, Assam, published two volumes of the Career Guidance Table Books, with Volume 1 covering Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)-related careers and Volume 2 covering non-STEM-related careers, which have been given to 4285 government and provincialised secondary and senior secondary schools (classes IX to XII).

Samagra Shiksha, Assam, also runs career podcasts where experts from different fields share their success stories, interact with students from schools, and provide advice on the route map to pursue one's dream career.
