Assam Public Service Commission scam: High Court seeks explanation

GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court on Friday issued notices to State Chief Secretary Alok Kumar and Commissioner & Secretary to Chief Minister Sanjay Lohia seeking explanations about inordinate delay in constitutiing a judicial commission headed by a retired high court judge to probe various anomalies in conducting Combined Competitive Examinations (CCE) 2013 by the APSC. The high court’s order came following a contempt petition by RTI activist Prasanta Singh. Singh told The Sentinel on Friday evening that even though the Gauhati High Court gave an order for the judicial inquiry into anomalies in CCE 2013 way back in 2015, the Assam Government is yet to constitute the probe compeliing him to file a contempt petition against the government. “All anomalies that took place in conducting the CCE 2013 by APSC cannot be inquired by the police only thorough forensic scrutiny of candidates’s answer scripts. Such anomalies could be probed by only judicial commission headed by a retired judge of high court,”Singh said, adding that the high court asked both the Assam Government officials to submit their explanations with compliance reports within the next six weeks.
