Guwahati: In the past 24 hours, heavy rainfall was recorded in different parts of the state, with Kokrajhar and Dhupdhara receiving the highest precipitation of 8 cm each. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has again issued a 'Red Alert' for 11 districts of Assam for May 30. An 'Orange Alert' has also been issued for most of the Middle Assam and hill districts, a few districts on the north bank of the Brahmaputra and Lower Assam, as well as the Kamrup (Metro) district for May 30.

In IMD parlance, a Red Alert means 'Warning: take action', and an Orange Alert translates to 'Be prepared to take action'. A Red Alert is the highest level of weather forecast warning.

The Regional Meteorological Centre of the IMD at Guwahati has issued a Special Weather Bulletin with a warning for heavy, very heavy & extremely heavy rainfall in different parts of the state.

The bulletin says the chief amount of rainfall in the last 24 hours occurred at Kokrajhar (district Kokrajhar) with 8 cm, Dhupdhara (district Goalpara) 8 cm, Dhubri (district Dhubri) 7 cm, Bahalpur (district Dhubri) 7 cm, Gharmura (district Hailakandi) 7 cm, Guwahati's Panjabari, Khanapara and Pandu (district Kamrup Metro) 5 cm each, Goalpara (district Goalpara) 5 cm, Mazbat (district Udalguri) 5 cm, and Shillongani (district Nagaon) with 5 cm of rainfall.

As for the current meteorological conditions, the bulletin says, "The southwest monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of Chhattisgarh & Odisha, some more parts of North Bay of Bengal, remaining parts of Northeastern states and some parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and the entire Sikkim today, May 29, 2025. Moreover, "A trough runs from southeast Rajasthan to the centre of Depression over Northwest Bay of Bengal off West Bengal-Bangladesh coasts across north Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal at 0.9 km above mean sea level."
