Assam: Schools asked to Register in Portal, Dispur tells High Court

GUWAHATI: The Education Department, Assam, has sought ten days from a division bench of the Gauhati High Court comprising Chief Justice Vijay Bishoni and Justice Kardak Ete to file an affidavit regarding the compliance of Section 12(1)(c) of the RTE Act.

 During the hearing of the PIL (30/2023), Education Department's counsel R. Mazumdar submitted that in compliance with Section 12(1)(c) of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, the State Government has already issued directions for registration of schools within Assam in the online portal of the departmental concerned. He prays for ten days' time to file an affidavit placing on record the instructions/directions issued by the State Government.

The court said that the petitioners are at liberty to file a response to the affidavit to be filed by the respondent state within a week.

The court listed the PIL for its next hearing on June 18, 2025.
