Guwahati: People in the state, including those in Guwahati, have experienced sweltering hot weather since Wednesday. There is no relief in sight in the next 24 hours, with hot and humid weather expected till Friday.

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Guwahati, of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a special weather bulletin at 12:30 pm on Thursday, which stated that due to prevailing mainly clear to partly cloudy sky conditions during daytime and high solar insolation, maximum temperatures are likely to be more than 35°C at a few places over Assam. Also, maximum temperatures are very likely to be appreciably above normal (above normal by 3°C to 4°C) over Assam during the next 24 hours.

However, rainfall is predicted to occur at many places in Assam on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, which is likely to lower the prevailing high temperatures and bring a modicum of relief to the people.

The forecast issued by the RMC for Friday, valid for 24 hours from 8.30 a.m. on Friday, says, "Moderate rain is very likely to occur at many places over Assam."

The forecast for Saturday, valid for 24 hours from 8.30 a.m. on Saturday, says, "Moderate rain is very likely to occur at most places over Assam."
