Guwahati: If things go according to plan, the parents or guardians of students in government and provincialised schools will receive a message (SMS) on their phone that their ward is absent from school. This will apply for students who are continuously absent from school, as the state government is concerned about the dropout rate.
In a meeting organized by Samagra Shiksha Axom (SSA) for education department officials, the issue of students remaining continuously absent from school, school dropouts and other issues. During the meeting, it was decided that the phone numbers of the parents or guardians on the Shiksha Setu portal have to be updated to enable the school authorities to inform the parents or guardians about their wards’ absence from school through SMS. A special drive in this regard was decided to be held as the phone numbers of many parents or guardians were found to be incorrect or not in service.
Regarding this issue, the Executive Director of SSA has written to the ADCs (Education), District Mission Co-ordinators (SSA), all Inspectors of Schools and District Elementary Education Officers asking them to organize a special drive from May 13 to 17 for the updation of mobile numbers of parents or guardians of students.
In the letter to that effect, the officials concerned were informed that SSA is going to send SMS to the parents or guardians of students who are found continuously absent in school. That, the absence of students hampers his or her academic career, and most of the time it leads to them dropping out of the school.
Now, to maintain the regularity and improve the students’ attendance, bulk SMS will be sent to the parents or guardians of such students, for which their mobile numbers must be correct.
Therefore, it is stated that a massive special drive will be carried out from May 13 to 17, 2025, to update the correct mobile number of such parents or guardians of students on the Shiksha Setu portal.
For this purpose, the letter directed the officials concerned to inform the principals, head teachers and class teachers of all the schools covered under the Shiksha Setu to update the correct mobile phone number on the Shiksha Setu portal.
