TINSUKIA: The Oil Field Protection & Public Welfare Protection Committee (OFPPWPC Northeast) has submitted an ultimatum to Oil India Limited (OIL) threatening to stop exploration, production, and vehicle movement of OIL in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh from January 4, 2025. The committee is up in arms against OIL engaging outside workers, depriving local ones.

The OFPPWPC, in a press release issued by its president Jayanta Baruah and general secretary Haren Chetia, stated that OIL had engaged a firm, Techno Canada Pvt Ltd, that in turn outsourced Woodland Pvt Ltd in Assam, which is operating private contracts for oil production at about 16 OIL sites like Baghjan, Barekuri, Dholla Mecheki, Duliajan, Tingrai, Tengakhat, Demou, etc., by employing youth from outside while depriving local youths.

The OFPPWPC submitted a memorandum to Oil India in August last year urging OIL to stop the employment of outside people, which OIL allegedly ignored. The OFPPWPC further demanded that the issue must be resolved by OIL before December 31. The OIL and Woodland Pvt Ltd would be solely responsible for any situation arising out of the blockade.
