GUWAHATI: ISRO chairman Dr V. Narayanan and his team assured the Assam government of full technical assistance and guidance in the preparation, design, necessary approvals, and launch of Assam’s own satellite, Asamsat.
A crucial meeting took place in Dispur between Assam’s Minister for Science and Technology, Keshab Mahanta, and Dr V. Narayanan, the newly appointed Chairman of ISRO and Secretary of India’s Department of Space.
Additionally, ISRO’s support for space-based applications in agriculture, forest monitoring, disaster management, land administration, water resource management, wetland conservation, and urban planning in Assam was also discussed. Responding positively to the Assam government’s request, the ISRO chairman confirmed that ISRO would provide complete technical support for Asamsat—from its design and manufacturing to launch and data processing. He further assured that ISRO would assist the state government in utilising space-based technologies for efficient governance and rapid development.
The meeting, held at the Chief Minister’s Office in Lok Sewa Bhawan, was attended by senior officials from the Assam government, including M.K. Yadav, Special Chief Secretary of the Environment and Forest Department; K.K. Dwivedi, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister; G.D. Tripathi, Principal Secretary of the Revenue Department; and others.
