Guwahati, Sept 1: The infamous Blue Whale game that has taken the world by storm has claimed its first victim from Assam, even as the Kamrup (Metro) district administration has constituted a monitoring committee for keeping a strict vigilance and take corrective steps to stop further spread of the game.

According to reports received here, a youth from Dhemaji pursuing MBA at Puducherry had committed suicide on Thursday night after playing Blue Whale game. Twenty three-year-old Sasikumar Bora reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his hostel room.

Bora was apparently chatting with his friends on Thursday night before retiring to his room. He was found hanging on Friday morning by his hostel mates, who then informed the police. They also told the police that Bora was playing the dreaded game.

After checking his cell phone, the police have confirmed that the youth was indeed playing the game. His phone has been seized and sent to the cyber cell for probe.

Bora’s body has been sent to the Government Medical College Hospital at Puducherry for post-mortem.

However, Bora’s parents have denied that their son was a victim of the Blue Whale game and suspected a foul play.

Meanwhile, there are unconfirmed reports from some places like Roha and Teok of teegers getting hooked on to the deadly game of Blue Whale. Some school and college students have been reportedly found to be sporting cut marks on their wrists. There are fears expressed by some that the cut marks are a consequence of the deadly game that they are playing.

On the other hand, rattled by the spread of the Blue Whale game, Kamrup (Metro) district administration on Friday constituted a committee to maintain strict vigilance and take preventive measures by creating awareness and control spread of the game further.

The 12-member committee comprises senior government officials, besides representatives of three NGOs. The officials are District Development Commissioner, Police Commissioner, Additiol Deputy Commissioner (Education), Joint Director of Health Services, Inspector of Schools, District Elementary Education Officer, District Social Welfare Officer, District Child Protection Officer and District Information & Public Relations Officer. Ashadeep, Scorpion and Destition are the three NGOs that have been made part of the committee.
