Budget session of Assam Assembly Starts from today

GUWAHATI: The Budget session of the Assam Assembly will commence from Monday. The session will continue till March 30. Earlier, the Budget session was scheduled to conclude March 27 with 12 working days. As per the new schedule, the session will continue till March 30 with 15 working days.

Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will table the State Budget for the financial year 2020-21 in the House at 3 pm on March 6. He will present the budget in the electronic format for the second consecutive term. This will be the last full-fledged Budget being presented by the BJP-led government before its term expires in 2021.

The Assembly Secretariat has so far received two Bills namely the Court Fee (Amendment) Bill, 2020 and the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2020 which will be tabled in the Assembly. More Bills are likely to be submitted by the State Government. Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in and around the Assembly Secretariat at Dispur and across the city in view of the Budget session.
