Central Bureau of Investigation arrests Power Grid official, 5 others

GUWAHATI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an Executive Director of the Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd, Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh) and five other members of a private company based at Noida (Uttar Pradesh), including executive vice president and head (Transmission & Distribution) and the assistant vice president & business head, Distribution.

CBI sources said that a case was registered against the Executive Director, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd., Itanagar and others on the charge that the public servant entered into a conspiracy with the others and was involved in extending favours to the said private company for various works, viz., preparation of inflated bills, early clearing of bills, PVC (Price Variation Clause) etc., related to contracts of the Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd, instead of illegal gratification. It was further alleged that the said company has bagged tenders about a comprehensive scheme for Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim from the Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd.

Searches were conducted on 11 premises of the accused persons in Gurugram, Noida and Ghaziabad which led to the recovery of numerous incriminating documents, materials, digital devices etc. Cash amounting to about Rs 93 lakh was also recovered from the residence of the Executive Director of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited.

The arrested persons were produced before the Court of Special Judge, CBI Cases, Panchkula (Haryana) on Thursday and were remanded to police custody up to July 15.
