GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has appealed to historians of the country to carry out research on the valiant personalities of Assam and then write a proper history for dissemination across the nation as a whole.
The Chief Minister, while addressing the closing ceremony of the celebrations of the 400th birth anniversary of Ahom general Lachit Barphukan, invited the historians to visit Assam and inspect archival material for the purpose. Sarma said that historical records of the past centuries have been properly preserved in museums and archives of Assam.
Sarma asserted that Lachit Barphukan's contribution was not for Assam alone but for the entire country.
"We are doing everything necessary to preserve data and spread knowledge about the glorious deeds of Lachit Barphukan. However, I want that biographies of Lachit Barphukan should be written in various languages so that the entire country is acquainted with great general of Assam," Sarma said.
"I am truly grateful to the Prime Minister for his inspiring words at the valedictory function of 400 years of Lachit Barphukan. Also congratulate the people of Assam and heartfelt gratitude to everyone for their support to the successful year-long celebrations," the Chief Minister added.
