Dispur to preserve Jyotiprasad’s Chitraban Studio and Gohpur police station

Guwahati, Jan 17: In a bid to make the new generation acquainted with the creations of Rupkonwar Jyotiprasad Agarwalla and to take his works to the world are, the Assam government will take steps for preservation of Chitraban Studio located at Bholaguri Tea Estate which was set up by the cultural legend for making his film ‘Joymati’ in 1933.

Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal announced this while speaking at the Shilpi Divas celebration today at Borghuli playground organized by State Cultural Affairs department in association with Biswanth district administration.

The Chief Minister also announced that the government will preserve Gohpur police station which witnessed the supreme sacrifices of Kaklata Baruah and Mukunda Kakoti during the Quit India Movement. The State government will also institute an award in the me of Sonit Konwar Gajen Baruah from this year, Sonowal added.

Coinciding with the celebration, Chief Minister Sonowal also presented Shilpi award for the year 2017 to renowned vocalist Mridula Das and music director Ramen Choudhury for their outstanding contribution in the field of Assamese art and culture.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sonowal urged the young generation to emulate the ideals of Jyotiprasad Agarwalla stating that Jyotiprasad was an artiste per excellence and his contributions immensely enriched the Assamese art and culture.

Sonowal also advocated for upholding harmony and co-existence amongst the people of Assam following the ideals of this cultural chutzpah. Sonowal further affirmed State government’s commitment to promote the creations of the cultural doyen globally and informed that host of activities are already lined up for the same.

Stating that the cultural legend had great faith on the abilities of the youth and considered them as catalyst for societal reformation, Sonowal highlighted Jyotiprasad’s role in promoting youth power through his creations.

Underlining this, the Chief Minister urged the young generation to pursue their goals with hardwork and perseverance. Sonowal also referred to the humanitarian ideals of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika and called upon all to devote for overall development of the downtrodden.

    The Chief Minister also highlighted the expressions of ture in the literary creations of Jyotiprasad Agarwalla and stressed on the need to work for protecting the rich tural beauty of the State and maintain its ecology.

He further advocated for strengthening the economic foundation of the State with proper exploitation of the abundant resources available in the State.

On the sidelines of the celebration, Chief Minister Sonowal unveiled a statue of Jyotiprasad Agarwalla at Bholaguri Tea Estate.

He also visited the Chitraban Studio and Dark Room which the cultural icon set up for his film Joymati. Sonowal also laid the foundation stone of Kaklata Baruah Auditorium to be constructed under Untied Fund for the year 2016-17 at Rupkonwar Jyotiprasad Agarwalla Memorial Park and a Circuit House at Gohpur to be constructed by the PWD Department.

State Irrigation minister Ranjit Dutta, Cultural Affairs minister ba Kumar Doley, Labour minister Pallav Lochan Das, MP RP Sarma, MLAs Utpal Bora, Pramod Borthakur, Padma Hazarika, family members of Jyoti Prasad Agarwalla and top officials of district administration were present among others in the programme.
