GUWAHATI, Jan 31: That a coal syndicate is operating in Margherita since long has been acknowledged in a confidential report of the CID (Crimil Investigation Department). The enquiry report of the state investigating agency says: “The Enquiry Officer (EO) has come to know during the discreet enquiry that the illegal transportation of coal has been going on for the last many years and it is still continuing with support from the police, local politicians and some officials of the Coal India Limited among others.” The EO visited the mining areas of Ledo, Lekhapani, Tirap and Tipong. He also contacted some local inhabitants besides engaging some local sources during the course of enquiry in 2016. This fact was brought out light by the KMSS in a press meet here today.
