GUWAHATI: The Personnel Department of the State Government is examining the service rules of 20 categories of posts of various departments for their inclusion in the CCE (Combined Competitive Examination) under the APSC (Assam Public Service Commission). At present, the APSC holds the CCE for 19 categories of posts.

The last cabinet decided to amend the APSC Combined Competitive Examination Rules to bring other analogous posts of various departments under the CCE ambit. The purpose is to cut costs and time, besides streamlining the recruitment of officers. It will also be helpful for candidates who often face hurdles in taking different examinations for analogous posts.

The inclusion of analogous posts of officers into the CEE will not be valid without amendment to APSC's CCE Rules.

According to Personnel Department sources, the department has identified 20 Grade A and Grade B posts for their inclusion in the CCE. The Personnel Department studies the service rules of the posts to come under the CCE to ascertain if they are analogous to the various other posts that come under the combined competitive examination.

Personnel Department sources refused to divulge the posts set for their inclusion in the CCE as they are still under examination. Some of the posts touted as sure shots are enforcement inspector, statistical inspector, finance and account officer, research officer etc.

If everything goes as planned, the APSC will hold its next CCE with additional categories of posts.
