GUWAHATI: Speaking on the concluding function of Advantage Assam 2.0 today, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that ‘the summit is a defining moment in the history of Assam that will set it on a journey towards a bright future’.
The Chief Minister said, “We’ve assured the investors of translating the MoUs signed with them into reality, one by one. The door of my office will always remain open for them. The summit concluded with an investment commitment in Assam totaling Rs 4.91 lakh crore. We had MoU proposals worth around Rs 6 lakh crore. However, we approved only the MoUs that we can convert into reality after thorough scrutiny.”
The Chief Minister said that Assam is on the path to becoming a big manufacturing hub. “Assam is set to witness Industry 4.0. The million-dollar question is: who will work in those industries? I appeal to our youth to upskill themselves for their better placements; failing which, people from outside will grab the opportunities. I also appeal to all universities, colleges, and other educational institutes to tune themselves with new Assam and ensure the production of a skilled workforce.”
The Chief Minister said, “Since childhood, I’ve seen a dependable Assam. I want to make Assam a contributory state. We have already started the journey towards that end. The GDP growth of the state was 12 percent in the past decade. The semiconductor plant will start production by the end of this year. Immediately following this will be the bio-refinery products, the new urea plant at Namrup, etc. All these will accelerate the growth of the economy of the state.”
The Chief Minister said that he had his eyes set on the healthcare industry by boosting medical tourism in the state.
“Concert economy’ being the latest concept, we have set the target of making Guwahati and Dibrugarh as concert capitals,” he said. The Chief Minister further said that the government is going to make the 40 lakh women members of self-help groups stakeholders in the development of the state.
On Advantage Assam 2.0, the Chief Minister said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi helped us script the success story with his guidance right from scratch. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also lent us invaluable support. At my request, he telephoned big industrial houses to invest in Assam.”
