Ban on VGR LAND

Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 9: The State Government is going to file a petition in the Supreme Court of India for review of the court orders pertaining to restrictions on the use of VGR and PGR land seeking exemption for the State from the purview of the said orders so that flood-affected and erosion-hit landless people of the State could be suitably rehabilitated. Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal directed his Legal Advisor Santanu Bharali to take necessary steps in this regard over phone after a review meeting of the Circle Officers of Dibrugarh at the Circuit House of the district on Sunday evening. Sonowal, while taking part at the review meeting, directed the circle officers to carry out a detailed study of land under their jurisdiction to ascertain the status before any allotment. He also asked the COs to take Gaon Burhas into full confidence in this exercise. The Chief Minister further asked the COs to conduct a survey to identify vacant government land to meet the needs of prospective industrialists for the setting up their industries.

The Chief Minister also asked the COs to take adequate steps for early release of fincial assistance to people affected by storm in the district.
