GUWAHATI: To facilitate the planned development of protected areas, the State Cabinet today approved the draft notification for the integrated eco-sensitive zone of Kaziranga Tiger Reserve and its seven adjoining protected areas and 11 reserve forests.
The Cabinet met today with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in the chair.
The Cabinet also approved the draft notification for delineation and recognition of nine animal corridors to the south of the KNP (Kaziranga National Park) to provide for safe passage of animals in the national park.
The Cabinet said, "The eco-sensitive zone will categorize activities inside it as prohibited, regulated and promoted. The zone is intended to protect flora and fauna, besides ensuring ecological and environmental security around the national park. The eco-sensitive zone will cover seven protected areas – KNP Tiger Reserve, Bura-Chapori Wildlife Sanctuary, Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary, Garampani Wildlife Sanctuary, Nambor-Doigrung Wildlife Sanctuary, and East and North Karbi Anglong Wildlife Sanctuary.
"The eco-sensitive zone will also cover 11 reserve forest areas – Hatipahar DC RF, Kolioni RF, Bagser RF, Kamakhya Hill RF, Kukrakata RF, Bhumuraguri RF, South Diju RF, North Diju RF, Panbari RF, Kachumara RF and Deopahar RF."
