GUWAHATI: The students of Finguagarh High School at Bajali in Barpeta district have condoled the death of a tree planted by them by observing one-minute silence and flying the school flag half-mast. The mourning did not end there. The students and teachers of the school have taken a pledge to plant ten more saplings against the ‘death’ of a tree.

A few years back, the students of the school planted a few saplings that grew up. The students of the school pray in the morning under the shade of the trees grown by none other than themselves. However, on September 16 last, a heavy storm uprooted one of the trees planted by the students. The tree died.

This led the students to hold the condolence meeting and take the pledge to plant ten saplings against the death of a tree.

The incident speaks volumes of the concern over the environment among the children of this age. The incident occurred at a time when there has been much ado over the global strike for climate change.
