Former Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Secretary Mukul Kathar Suspended

The State Government placed former Secretary of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Mukul Kathar (ACS) under suspension on the charge of physically assaulting a lady and pointing a gun at his (Kathar’s) wife.

 GUWAHATI: The State Government placed former Secretary of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Mukul Kathar (ACS) under suspension on the charge of physically assaulting a lady and pointing a gun at his (Kathar’s) wife. After careful examination of the report from the KAAC Principal Secretary on the incident, the Personnel Department issued the official notification placing the ACS officer under suspension.

According to the notification, the KAAC Principal Secretary furnished a report to the Government of Assam of an inquiry by KAAC Secretary Rajeshan Terang into allegations lodged against Mukul Kathar, the then KAAC Secretary. The KAAC Secretary stated in his report that Mukul Kathar had physically assaulted Smt. Sengpi Teronpi and directly pointed a gun at his wife, Smt. Lindalee Teronpi, and threatened to shoot her. He also fired blank shots on the ground on April 22, 2023, in Diphu.

Two cases have been registered in Diphu Police Station against Mukul Kathar under sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act, 1959, and the matter is under investigation.

Pending the drawal of departmental proceedings, Mukul Kathar is placed under suspension under Rule 6(1) of the Assam Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1964, with immediate effect, the notification said.
