Gashakti seeks four seats from Congress

Guwahati, March 13: After its prelimiry talks for a tie-up with the BJP failed, the Ranuj Pegu-led Gashakti Asom is exploring the possibility of an alliance with the Congress.

Its leaders accompanied by Congress leader Bhupen Kumar Bora today flew to New Delhi for discussions with the AICC.

Gashakti leader Ronuj Pegu said his party is seeking four seats - Lakhimpur, Majuli, Joi and Dhemaji. Lakhimpur is an AGP stronghold and the BJP has set aside the seat for the regiol party. The other three seats were won by the Congress in the last election. Pradan Barua, who had won the Joi seat with Congress ticket in the last elections, has been projected by the BJP at Dhemaji this time.

State BJP president Sarbanda Sonowal will contest from Majuli, where sitting MLA is  Rajiv Lochan Pegu of the Congress.
