Cadres linked to JMB, given 3-phase training by trainers from West Bengal, says IGP LR Bisnoi

Bongaigaon, April 21: In a major breakthrough, Chirang police today bbed seven jihadis, including the Imam of a Jama Masjid, who were part of a module involved in indoctriting jihadi ideology among people. They were trained by trainers from West Bengal.
The jihadis were arrested from different locations in the district in simultaneous operations launched last night.
They have been identified as Joyl Abedin (32), a resident of Rajpara village under Amguri police station, Rezzak Ali (21) of Amguri, Soleman Ali (28), Dildar Ali (23), Md Nurul Islam (27), Rafiqul Islam (27) and Ukhiluddin (33) - all from No1 Saurabari under Bijni police station Saurabari. Joyl Abedin is the Imam of a Jama Masjid at Amguri.
IGP LR Bisnoi said Joyl Abedin and Rezzak Ali were arrested from Amguri area and remaining five were bbed from Daukhagar-Udalguri area under Chirang district. He said all the seven accused are directly connected to the Jamaat-ul-Mujahiddin Bangladesh (JMB) which is trying to set up bases in Assam.
"As per our information, Joyl Abedin is the main assistant of Ashik Buravai, who is the kingpin of the module behind bringing jihadi activity to Assam. Ashik Buravai was arrested a few months ago. Buravai had several meetings with Joyl Abedin for setting up the jihadi training camp at Amguri area which was busted a few days ago and four persons arrested. As Joyl was an Imam of a mosque, he was a highly respected person. Taking advantage of this trust, Joyl used to influence people towards jihadi ideology," Bisnoi said.
Elaborating on the training strategy, Bisnoi said the cadres are given three-phase training. "First they undergo a religious training, then a physical training and lastly on handling weapons," he said, adding that two trainers from West Bengal has visited Assam to train the cadres.
"We have identified the two trainers. Besides there are seven more jihadis who are still at large. We will b them soon. We have got their mes and addresses and we are in touch with our counterparts in West Bengal to arrest them," he said.
Meanwhile, residents of Amguri area staged a protest at Amguri police station protesting the arrest of the Imam. They alleged that the arrest was a conspiracy against Muslims and demanded his release.
Another training camp of the JMB was busted at Daukhagar in Chirang a few months back. Police had last year arrested several jihadis operating under JMB in Chirang district, after receiving inputs that Islamist groups were recruiting Muslim youths in Chirang, Kokrajhar and Baksa districts of BTAD.
