Guwahati: There is good news for tea manufacturers in the country, as the auction prices for tea in the first two months of this calendar year were much higher than the prices realised during 2024. The tea prices garnered in auctions in January and February 2025 were more than Rs 22 per kg above the prices fetched during the same period last year.
According to the Tea Board, the average price fetched at auctions for all types of tea was Rs 152.14 per kg in January and February 2025. The average price fetched last year during the same period was Rs 129.44 per kg. Tea from the North India zone also garnered auction prices that were higher than those from the South India zone in the first two months this year. Significantly, Assam tea is included in the North India zone.
Last year, Indian tea fetched the highest price at auctions in the month of September 2024, with an average price of Rs 229.99 per kg.
The new tea season in Assam started in February this year.
