First PM to grace Srimanta Sankardev Sangha’s annual conference

SIVASAGAR, Feb 5: The Lakshmith Bezbaruah Samany Kshetra of Rupahi Pathar near Joysagar reverberated with the chanting of 'Joy Guru Sankar' as lakhs of devotees thronged the venue from all over the State on the second day of the 85th annual conference of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha.
On Friday, rendra Modi became the first Prime Minister to attend the annual conference of the Sangha.
With folded hands, Modi approached the dais and addressed the gathering with 'Joy Guru Sankar'.
Speaking on the occasion, Modi said that the contributions of the Vaishvite saint have no match. "What this 15th century saint contributed towards unity and brotherhood among the people before the invention of telephones, television and internet, is still relevant at this modern age and he continues to live within us. He had amalgamated drama, dance and music with spirituality, which only a great man can do. He had not only taught how to become a good Assamese but also how to become a good Indian."
"To make a healthy society, first of all we need to make ourselves a healthy individual. At this juncture when we are taking the society and country forward, the teachings of Srimanta Sankardev have become even more relevant," said Modi.
He appreciated the works of the Sangha and assured that the Central government would provide all support in its effort to spread the message of Srimanta Sankardeva.
Petroleum Minister Dhramendra Pradhan, MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa and BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma also accompanied the Prime Minister.
