Guwahati: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has allocated Rs 610 crore for incurring expenditure on road projects under the Special Accelerated Road Development Programme for North East (SARDP-NE) in the financial year 2024-25. The allocation was made for MoRTH’s regional offices at Guwahati and Itanagar.
The allocation order was issued on Friday. The amount of Rs 610 crore allocated today is the revised allocation, with the earlier allocation being Rs 520 crore, as notified on December 31, 2024.
According to the instant order, the revised allocation for the Guwahati regional office stands unchanged at Rs 290 crore. However, the allocation for the Itanagar regional office has been revised to Rs 320 crore from Rs 230 crore allocated earlier. It is also mentioned in the order that the expenditure must be incurred only on the works sanctioned by the MoRTH under SARDP-NE.
The Special Accelerated Road Development Programme for North East (SARDP-NE) is a scheme with the objective of upgrading NHs connecting state capitals to 2/4 lanes, providing connectivity to district headquarter towns of NER by at least 2-lane roads, providing road connectivity to backward and remote areas of NER to boost socio-economic development, improving roads of strategic importance in border areas, and improving connectivity to neighbouring countries.
