GUWAHATI: The Asom Sattra Mahasabha (ASM) established a naamghar and installed the Guru Axon (mentor’s seat) on the premises of the Badrinath Mahamandaleshwar Ashram at an approximate altitude of 10,279 ft, or 3,100 metres above sea level on the foothills of the Himalayas. According to the ASM, it is the only naamghar at such a height.

An ASM team led by Secretary General Kusum Kumar Mahanta reached Badrinath in Uttarakhand in the evening of June 3, 2025, for these auspicious installations and inaugurated the naamghar on June 4, besides the installation of the Guru Axon. The Akhand Bhagwat Path (non-stop recitation of the Bhagwat) that had begun on June 4 concluded today.

The ASM team had taken Guru Axon, Chandratap (a canopy used as moonlit shade above the Guru Axon), the Bhagwat, Kirtangosha, Naamgosha, etc., with them from Assam. The Naamghar has a portrait each of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev and Mahapurush Madhabdev, besides a portrait of gayan-bayon and classical Xatriya dance.

Keshav Das Maharaj of the Badrinath Mahamandaleshwar Ashram is the man who extended support for the ASM to make such a feat a success.

Speaking to The Sentinel on Tuesday, Kusum Kumar Mahanta said, “A person named Krisha Das will look after the naamghar at the Badrinath Mahamandaleshwar Ashram.”

The ASM team comprises Rupjyoti Bhakat, Ananta Mahanta, Tikendra Goswami, Banamali Mahanta, Tankeshwar Mahanta, Dharmeshwar Goswami, Mukesh Dutta Goswami, Thaneswar Das, Banjit Rabha, Hariprasad Das, Jitul Kalita, Debabrata Pegu, and Manmohan Kalita.
