GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Assam is heading in the direction that will make it a giver rather than a taker for the development of the country.

The Chief Minister said that Assam is writing its destiny. He said that strongly supported by the policies of the Government of India, especially the support provided by the Prime Minister, the state is heralding a new dawn for its development.

The Chief Minister said, "Our mantra is: Don't ask but start giving for national development. We're moving in that direction. Assam wants to stand as a state that gives more priority to how it will contribute to the development of the country."

In the past few years, Assam has been making strides on all fronts-setting up new industries and attracting fresh investments. To accelerate the pace further, the government has brought about major policy changes. The Chief Minister said, "For investment in Assam, the government is unlocking possibilities in every sector with customised incentives, stable government policies, a safe and secure environment, booming infrastructure, and seamless connectivity."

The Assam government has recently approved the Assam Action Plan on Biotech Industries, besides approving the Assam Startups and Innovation Policy. According to the Chief Minister, through the startup policy, the government will provide various fiscal and non-fiscal incentives to encourage entrepreneurs, as the government aims to support 5,000 startups and create one lakh job opportunities in the next five years.

To make this a reality, the state government has focused on the Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit, which has the potential to shape the state's future industrial development, besides setting in the inflow of investment.

The Chief Minister met JSW Group's Chairman Sajjan Jindal and Welspun World's Chairman BK Goenka in Mumbai today. He talked with Jindal about partnering together, particularly in the infrastructure and energy sectors in Assam. He made a similar approach to Goenka for investment in textiles, energy, water treatment, and infrastructure sectors.
