GUWAHATI, Dec 20: AIUDF president Badruddin Ajmal has said that the Congress in Assam needs to broaden its mind if it is interested to materialize a grand alliance in Assam in the Bihar model.

Talking to newsmen after the conclusion of the party’s two-day review meetings in the city today, Ajmal said: “We’re yet to hold any direct talks with the Congress or the AGP in Assam. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his backroom boy Prashant Kishore have been mediating for a possible grand alliance in Assam involving the Congress, AIUDF and the AGP. If the Congress is ready to broaden its mind, we’re ready to huddle together. We need to be broad-minded as Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad Yadav are. The model of give-and-take in seat-sharing as shown by Nitish and Lalu in the recent Bihar polls should be an ideal model for us if we’re to be able to tell the BJP a good riddance from Assam.”

Ajmal was on record telling the media yesterday when asked  if there would be problems in the alliance of a motley group of parties in the State: “When eyes are set on a bigger issue, smaller problems are overlooked. We’re crystal clear, a grand alliance is a must so as to tell the BJP good riddance from Assam.”

The party reviewed the matters relating to 20 lower Assam LACs yesterday and today they reviewed issues relating to 20 LACs in central Assam. The meeting heard the views of the party’s Assembly committees, amidst hot debates in front of Ajmal, MLAs and other senior leaders of the party.

Ajmal said that he laid stress on putting an end to the minor hiccups in the party organization.

To make that a reality, Ajmal did send the chiefs of the mohila morcha, juva morcha and the chatra morcha of the party to the fileds recently. The chiefs of all the morchas submitted their reports to the two-day review meetings of the party that had a threadbare discussions on them. Ajmal entrusted party functiories to take care of the grey areas within 15 days as identified by the morcha chiefs of the party.
