Northeast Recorded Good Voters’ Turnout: Election Commission of India

NEW DELHI: Eight north-eastern States including Sikkim that went for polling in the first phase on Thursday recorded a good number of voters’ turnout.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) said that maximum voters’ turnout took place in Tripura with 81.8 percent. Assam recorded 68 percent voters’ turnout. Manipur 78.2 percent, Sikkim 69 percent, Mizoram 60 per cent, Nagaland 78 per cent, Meghalaya 67.16 per cent, and Arunachal Pradesh 58 per cent.

Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram have single-phase polling. So elections in these States were over today,” said the Election Commission.

Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh have both Lok Sabha and Assembly polls together.

The Election Commission officials said that 15 cases of EVM damage have been reported from Manipur, Bihar, West Bengal, and Andhra Pradesh.
