GUWAHATI, March 8: The Minority Morcha of the Assam state committee of the BJP has claimed that over 10 lakh minority voters of the state will vote for the BJP in 2016 Assembly elections.

In a statement issued to the press today, Morcha president Mominul Aowal said: “In a survey conducted by us recently, it has come to light that over 10 lakh minority voters of the state are going to vote for the BJP in the Assembly polls in the state slated for 2016. We have conducted the survey during our membership drive. As many as 150 Morcha members have been working overtime in the 126 LACs in the State to meet out target of enrolling 1 lakh minority members of the party by March 31, 2016. We will meet the target at ease. Party vice president Harekrish Bharali and general secretary Bijay Gupta helped us in the enrolment drive.”

According to Aowal, things have become clear during the membership drive that many minority voters in Assam are fed up with the Congress’ luring tactics which made them mere commodities. “They have realized the fact that if they are to get rid of the Congress’ luring tactics, they have to keep their faith on the BJP,” he said, and added that the BJP was always ready to help all.

According to Aowal, the minority voters will play a crucial role in the 2016 Assembly elections in Assam. “We’re going to observe 2015 as the year of political change in Assam,” he said.

According to Aowal, of the 35 per cent minority voters in the state, 30.93 per cent are Islamic minorities, 3.70 per cent are Christians, 0.19 per cent are Buddhists, 0.08 per cent are Sikhs and 0.9 per cent are Jains.
