GUWAHATI: Over three lakh families will have their house-warming (griha pravesh) programmes on a single day under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) in the state on July 13. Chief Minister Himanta Himanta Biswa Sarma will launch the programme centrally from Guwahati.

This is the first-ever event of its kind where such a large number of families get their newly built houses under the scheme in the state. The Panchayat and Rural Development (P&RD) Department executes the scheme with the help of local gaon panchayats.

Briefing the media today, P&RD Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass said, “Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin is one of the rural welfare schemes that covers more than 19 lakh beneficiaries in the state. Since its inception and in alignment with the objective of the programme, i.e., ‘Housing for All’, Assam has sanctioned 19,10,823 PMAY-G houses under SECC, and under Awaas+, it has completed 12,41,559 houses to date. The present State government, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has completed 8,34,839 PMAY-G houses since assuming office on May 10, 2021. The target schedule for the remaining 6,69,264 houses is March 2024.”

On the flow of funds, Dass said, “The state has received a total amount of Rs. 14540.84 crore in the last financial year 2022–23, with Rs. 13086.76 crore as the central share and Rs. 1454.08 crore as the state share. Since the financial year 2022–23 till date, the state has incurred an expenditure of Rs. 10913.24 crore. To accommodate the landless PMAY-G beneficiaries, the state has taken the initiative to provide land to construct a cluster of PMAY-G houses, and simultaneous efforts are being undertaken to mobilize funds from different programmes and CSR to provide other facilities in the clusters. As of date, seven clusters have been completed, covering 99 beneficiaries, and 19 clusters are ongoing, covering 838 beneficiaries across 10 districts: Bongaigaon, Cachar, Charaideo, Dibrugarh, Dhubri, Golaghat, Lakhimpur, Hailakandi, Morigaon, and Nagaon. Also, the state has formulated a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for PMAY-G housing in tea garden areas.”

Dass said, “Such a speedy completion of PMAY-G houses after May 10, 2021, has been possible due to the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the constant monitoring by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.”
