GUWAHATI: In line with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s New Year declaration that 2024 would be a year of development, big investment, and new iconic projects, the State PWD has started the process for the construction of rural roads with an estimated cost of Rs 568 crore. More such road projects and bridges are in the pipeline.
According to sources, the PWD will construct the roads under the Mukkya Mantrir Pakipath Nirman Achani (MMPPNA), RIDF (Rural Infrastructure Development Fund), Asom Mala, etc. NABARD will provide funds for RIDF projects.
According to PWD sources, Rs 487.47 crore has been earmarked for the construction of rural roads in Baksa, Barpeta, Biswanath, Cachar, Charaideo, Chirang, Darrang, Dibrugarh, Dima Hasao, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Jorhat, Karbi Anglong, Karinganj, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Sonitpur, Tinsukia, and Udalguri districts under the Mukkya Mantrir Pakipath Nirman Achani. The department has already floated tenders for the execution of these road projects.
NABARD will also provide Rs 84.05 crore for rural road projects in 11 districts: Baksa, Biswanath, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Karbi Anglong, Karimganj, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Sivasagar, and Udalguri. PWD has already floated tenders for the execution of these road projects.
