Reforms: CCTVs installed in 297 police stations of Assam

The State Government has informed the Gauhati High Court that it has already installed CCTV cameras in 297 police stations and started monitoring the CCTV feeds from a centralized control centre.

GUWAHATI: The State Government has informed the Gauhati High Court that it has already installed CCTV cameras in 297 police stations and started monitoring the CCTV feeds from a centralized control centre. The government has also informed the Court that it will install CCTVs in the remaining police stations in the state shortly.

During the hearing of the suo motto PIL (2/2018) on Friday, State Advocate General D Saikia said, “In Phase-I, 100 police Stations in the State of Assam have been provided with CCTVs. In Phase II, installation and commissioning have been done in 197 police stations. In the remaining police stations, installation and commissioning shall be completed in the coming few days.”

The Advocate General further said that all the CCTV feeds were being monitored at the centralized control centre in Ulubari, Guwahati.

Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh Additional Advocate General B. D. Goswami submitted that CCTVs have been installed in all the police stations across the state of Arunachal Pradesh, but till date, the centralized control centre could not be established because of connectivity issues.

The Court directed the Arunachal Pradesh Government to expedite the process of establishing a centralized control centre.

The Additional Advocate General further submitted that steps for effecting service on the accused in Criminal Petition (18/2022) have been taken and they will be positively served with the notices of the said petition by June 29, 2023.

The division bench, comprising Chief Justice Sandeep Mehta and Justice Devashis Baruah, renotified the hearing of the PIL in August.
