GUWAHATI, May 17: The Act Implementation Committee of the Assam Legislative Assembly (ALA) is worried over the rising bandhs and road blockades in the State. At a meeting held on Thursday, the committee took a serious note on the practice of burning tyre during bandhs.

Addressing the media after the meeting, committee chairman Mrinal Saikia said: “Violating the rights of the general public in the name of bandhs is not just. The government should act tough against such bandhs. It should prepare a Bill to legislate a tough Act against bandhs. Such bandhs deal a blow to the State exchequer as well.”

The meeting was attended by the officials of the PWD, Home Department and the National Highway Authority of India.
