GUWAHATI: After the constituency delimitation exercise, the legislature parties of the BJP, AGP, and UPPL got into a huddle and had a marathon closed-door meeting at the Tinsukia Convention Centre in Tinsukia town today. All MPs and MLAs of the three coalition partners attended the meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. According to sources, the meeting deliberated on various schemes of the government, the ensuing Lok Sabha election, and other issues.
The meeting that began at 11 in the morning continued until 8.30 pm.
The Chief Minister wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter): "Held a day-long fruitful discussion with Hon'ble MPs and MLAs from the state belonging to the NDA. We are of the collective resolve that to build a Viksit Bharat in Amrit Kaal, we need to ensure the Hon'ble PM's victory in 2024 with a landslide majority".
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "We met today to organize ourselves for the 2024 Lok Sabha election as our aim is to give maximum Lok Sabha seats to Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the state. We are going to amend the Panchayati Raj Act in the next Assembly session."
The Chief Minister further said that the meeting also discussed issues like providing self-employment avenues to two lakh unemployed youths, personally helping the members of self-help groups, ration card distribution to 40 lakh people, setting up of two new schools in each LAC, construction of a model Anganwadi centre in each LAC, functioning of the sub-districts, etc.
The Chief Minister said that the government would introduce the bill for a law banning polygamy in the state in the December session of the Assembly.
