GUWAHATI: Government and private schools will now have to provide 360 degree information about their staff and students. This information will be uploaded in the Siksha Setu Axom portal which was formally launched in Guwahati today by State Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu.
The Siksha Setu Axom portal is a comprehensive digital platform designed to serve as a single source of information for day-to-day administrative operations of schools so that the Education Department can take timely and data-driven decisions for optimization of resources and improving the overall performance of schools.
Along with the portal’s launch, Assam will observe a ‘School Profile Updation Week’ from April 24 to April 30, 2023, during which all relevant information will be uploaded by both government and private schools onto the portal. Addressing media persons at the portal launch, minister Dr Ranoj Pegu said, “The Central Government uses the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) to build a national database of schools. But through the Siksha Setu Axom portal, we will now be able to get necessary information about schools whenever we want. With the help of this portal, we are looking to take things forward in terms of revamping the education sector.”
He said that around 50,000 tablets have been distributed among government schools. “Each school can upload information using the tablet given. With the fund allotted to the schools, they can purchase SIM cards and internet data for uploading the information,” he said.
During the ‘School Profile Updation Week’, principals, head masters and head mistresses of elementary and secondary level schools will have to update their school profile in the Siksha Setu Axom portal. The school profile consists of – school category, management, address, SMC contact details, Head master contact details, SMC bank details, nearest institution details, Legislative Assembly, Parliamentary constituency, GPS location along with school photograph and land details. Each school will have to submit 40 documents to complete the school profile.
When asked about the process of transferring teachers, minister Pegu said that transfer of teachers was a complicated process. “There are 75 categories of teachers. As per rule, a teacher must serve for minimum 10 years in one school to be eligible for transfer. In case of specially-abled teachers, they must complete at least two years of service in one school. We will also have to look into the teacher-student ratio while transferring teachers. Overall, it is a complicated process and it is going on,” he said.
The minister also announced that the result of the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) exam, 2023 would be declared before the results of the Class X exam conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). When asked if the HSLC exam will be conducted in 2024, the minister said that the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) would conduct the Class X exam.
