GUWAHATI: The Assam Information Commission (AIC) has 'strongly recommended' the State government for 'suitable action' against the departments that have not submitted their annual RTI (Right to Information) reports to the commission.
The RTI Act, 2005 has a provision that all departments need to submit their annual RTI reports to the State Information Commission. However, in Assam, seven departments have defied this provision of the Act and have not submitted their annual RTI report to the AIC despite repeated reminders. The AIC is not happy with the seven departments. According to the annual report of the Assam Information Commission (AIC) 2020-21, the seven departments are Education (Elementary), Education (Higher), Finance, Parliamentary Affairs, PWD (Roads), Revenue and Disaster Management (R&DM) and WPT & DC (Welfare of Plain Tribes and Backward Classes).
Twelve other departments submitted their annual RTI reports to the AIC partially. The departments are Animal Husbandry and Veterinary; Cooperation, Environment and Forest; Excise; Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs; Health and Family Welfare; Home; Irrigation; Panchayat and Rural Development; Power; Labour Welfare and Social Welfare.
