Speed up double-tracking: Sonowal tells Railways

Guwahati, June 6: Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal today held a meeting with North East Frontier Railway General Mager HK Jaggi and asked him to expeditiously undertake the double-tracking work to ensure facilitation of seamless train movement in the State.

A three-member team of NF Railway led by Jaggi called on Chief Minister Sonowal at the latter's office in Assam Secretariat and discussed with him on a host of issues ranging from double tracking to construction of railway termil at Aghthori near Amingaon. Sonowal enquired into the progress of double-tracking work on Guwahati-Lumding section and asked the GM to ensure its early completion.

Meanwhile, Jaggi apprised the Chief Minister that survey work of double tracking between Lumding-Dibrugarh section has already been undertaken and the project will be launched on a fast-track basis. Regarding staff recruitment to Grade III and IV categories, Chief Minister Sonwal asked the General Mager to adhere to Centre's decision of 'no-interview norm'. Jaggi also informed Sonowal that several plans are on the anvil to decongest Guwahati Railway Station by upgrading railway infrastructure across the peripheral areas of the city.
