GUWAHATI: Beware! A mistake while driving may burn a big hole in your pocket. The new Motor Vehicle Act (Amendment) 2019 is effective from September 1, 2019 with manifold hike in fines and stringent punishment. The only mantra while driving a vehicle now is – make haste slowly. The vehicle offences are costlier now. Gone are the lenient days when a driver with no seatbelt fastened could go just by paying Rs 300 or getting a warning. One will have to pay not a penny less that Rs 1,000 for not fastening the seatbelt, when caught now. Such a charge is justified when it is compared with the worth of one’s life. According to the new Act, now on the rates of fines and the quantum of punishment will be as per the table.
